The Greater Idaho movement, How liberal legislators are destroying Oregon
Revolution or disassociation, two bad choices one result.
I had an interesting conversation over the weekend with some people who believe that Oregon can be saved if both sides come together and start talking. I thought it would be a great thing to write while my thoughts are still fresh in my mind. First let’s address why the Greater Idaho movement exists. The Democrat majority absolutely refuses to allow any Conservative, Republican point of view to be considered. When this happens in a society and there is a constant shutdown of opposing views, if you are lucky you get disassociation, thus the Liberals, the Democrats have spawned the birth of a movement dedicated to removing themselves from Oregon.
A glaring example of this was the debate on HB2002, every single proposal from the Republicans was shut down, blocked, sneered at, and insulted. These actions are the seeds of Revolution, which the Democrats have sown, watered and grown. What they don’t seem to understand is Conservative people are leaving Oregon. I personally know at least 10 families who have left because they have no voice in their state government. There are many more planning to leave as soon as possible. I have heard Democrats and Liberals say let them go we don’t need them. The problem with that idiotic statement is when these people leave they take their wealth with them, thus less money to fund Democrat ideas and programs. It is kind of like a self fulfilling prophecy of doom in slow motion.
Oregon is a beautiful state with all of its natural wonders but there is a rotten core in its politics that is destroying the state from the inside out. How do you fix this problem. Easy you give equal representation to those who live in rural counties, otherwise Oregon eventually will fracture. Every County should have one chamber that is equal in representation. If this is not done the pressure will continue to mount, until just like splitting a geode or thunder egg at a rock show it will break into two parts.
We shall see if the Democrats and Liberals continue down the path of self destruction with stupid legislative proposals or they recognize dissenting opinions and dissenting voices are healthy in a free society.
Power is a funny thing, if used to benefit all of the people who are voters and citizens it promotes freedom and liberty. If power is only used to benefit a small group of people in elected office, eventually it turns poisonous and dark growing the seeds of Revolution and disassociation
Here, Here Mr. Woods! You have it correct. We East/Rural Oregonians have had enough of the Marxist dogma emanating from the high and mighty Democrats. We want to be citizens and not subjects. We can only imagine what crazy ideas will be put forward in the next Oregon legislature. It seems fantasy right now that the Democrats will loose control of Oregon in the coming 30 years. Thus: Many of us want a divorce due to irreconcilable differences. And just what do the controlling interest really want? Seems to me it is all about POWER-CONTROL-AUTHORITY. Folks in the populous areas have not woken up to the issues and seem to "go along to get along". As well, many legislators do to. The Greater Idaho Movement will continue to seek liberty and independence from the tyranny coming from Salem.
Great article, John!! I completely agree. I moved here from Kentucky in 2011 to be close to my daughter and son-in-law. I was enchanted with Oregon and even Portland at that time. However, since 2015 I have become more and more disturbed by the Woke politicians who continually talk about solving problems while everything continues to degrade. It is very much in my mind to leave Oregon and go back to my Southern Indiana roots where what you believe and say is not labelled dis-, mis-, or mal-information just because some tyrant does not agree.
